Guo Pei (郭培; Rihanna, Met; ring a bell?), Lan Yu (兰玉) and Yin Yiqing in late January took to the Haute Couture Catwalks of Mother Fashion: Paris. Fun fact: Yin, raised in Paris, was the first Chinese-born designer to be admitted into Paris’s haute couture creating elite.
“Fewer than half the fashion houses that unveiled spring haute couture collections on the catwalks of Paris last week were French. Italian houses Valentino, Armani and Versace are correspondent members with an established couture clientele; there is a Middle East contingent, led by Elie Saab and Zuhair Murad; and the new kids on the block are the Chinese,” reports Francesca Fearon on February 5 for the South China Morning Post (SCMP).
Milky pastels and heavy embroidery made up the couture palette du moment. The Year of the Monkey already looks to be an exciting one for the China Fashion scene. Get set for some fabulous fireworks!
