Whether it was an interpretation of currency and spending in America, the spirit of Feminism and Masculinity, the balance between chaos and serenity, culture vs personal or display of artistic expression, the unspoken chosen theme was, well, the story of “life”. The kids of the Parsons Design Institute cast delivered.
The thesis project for fashion design students is no small feat, and as a spectator of the presentation at this season’s NYFW, it was an honor to be a part of the scene. In one seamless stream, each collection perfectly segwayed from one to the next, clearly showcasing individual talent, while also presenting the Parsons brand. A majority of the graduating class this year was of Chinese descent, so the interest here for Temper Magazine, is clear.
With sincere depth and creativity, the designers dove into the depths of their creative souls and pulled out what spoke to their personalities, experiences and visions of the world. Whether it was an interpretation of currency and spending in America, the spirit of Feminism and Masculinity, the balance between chaos and serenity, culture versus personal or display of artistic expression, the unspoken chosen theme was, well, the story of “life”. What here doesn’t speak to the abstract and literal conversations had by people around the world?
Fashion is, after all, just another language for communicating these complexities and dynamic ways of thought.
As each collection glided down the runway, every minute became more exciting than the last. The colors and materials passed around were vibrant, exciting, abstract, and innovative, They were even more dynamic and intriguing than even some established designers already on the market.
Past-time nostalgia, present day controversy and future sought-after dreams define this year’s Parsons MFA graduation show and ignited a brilliant fire in everyone’s anticipation for the future of fashion.
To find out more on these guys, keep calm and Temper on! #comingsoon
